| This early Hampshire Pottery hair receiver
is a piece from the high-glaze art pottery period, probably in the 1870's or 1880's.
This was before J.S. Taft and Co. of Keene NH adopted the name of Hampshire Pottery
and developed its many matte glazes. It was made in a time when every Victorian lady
would have such a receiver on her dresser to save the hair from her brushing - useful in
making jewelry an other hair pieces in that era. Pottery hair receivers are seldom
seen since they were uncommon by the time most American art pottery was being made some
decades later. The color is a deep olive green that is nearly black. The bottom is
inscribed JST and Co., Keene N . Very good condition with no chips, cracks or
repairs, just a pin head sized glaze pop. (Stock # P 219-4611)
